Ibrahim Mahama, Business mogul and brother of former President John Dramani Mahama took court action against Ernest Owusu Bempah, Communications Director of Ghana Gas Company Limited and Despite Group of Companies, suing them GH¢2 million each on the charges of defamation of character. The judge however awarded a much smaller amount of GH¢300,000. According to MyNewsGh.com, Ernest Owusu Bempah is allegedly set to give up a luxurious 3 bedroom house as part payment in compliance with the court order.
A sum of GH¢107,000 was withdrawn from Ernest Owusu Bempah’s bank account at National Investment Bank on 20 January 2021. With GH¢203,000 more to pay, the accused has allegedly began making arrangements to use his house located at Tema to cover the full judgement debt of GH¢300,000.
In addition to being sued, the court ordered the accused to publish a statement retracting their defamatory comments as well as rendering an apology to Mr. Mahama in the Daily Graphic, and the platforms on which the offenses were committed.
The business mogul, Ibrahim Mahama was represented in court throughout the proceedings by his right-hand man, Rafik Mahama. His legal team consisted of Lawyer Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah and was reinforced by Makafui and Gloria Amoah .
