Hiplife musician Captain Planet, of music trio 4×4, has disclosed that he was detained in America on his first visit.

He revealed this during an interview with Doreen Andoh on Cosmopolitan Mix on Joy FM. Captain Planet, whose real name is Jeff Silvanus Dodji Dovo Negro, shared his experience when he first visited the United States of America.

The Suhum-born rapper revealed that he was detained for two hours in the US because of his name. He explained further that he had to wait for that long while the immigration authority in the United States contacted Ghana to find out if he was truly Ghanaian.

Upon his return back to Ghana, the musician said he was compelled to drop a part of his name to avoid having the same problem subsequently. “When I came to Ghana I was so upset I had to take some of the names out,” he said

Deductively, Captain Planet was possibly detained due to his name which is same as ‘Captain Planet’ – an American animation series which became very popular in Ghana in the early 90s. Reggae/dancehall musician Batman, changed his name to now Samini, perhaps, due to the sameness with globally established BATMAN character/movie

Captain Planet also confirmed rumors that his wife is older him. “My wife is older than me but it doesn’t change anything,” he said. Captain Planet, who is the leader of Hiplife trio 4×4, recently released a latest hit ‘Obi Agye Obi Girl’ which features Kofi Kinaata.

Talking about his motivation for his recent track, he said, “My inspiration came from hearing stories of breakups from friends and also, some of them are from movies that I’ve been watching.”

The rapper concluded that he decided to write the song after listening to all these stories. Less than a month after its released ‘Obi Agye Obi Girl’ has become an anthem among music lovers.
