In the life of every nation, there are a few individuals who shine bright in their area of expertise and inspire others to pursue excellence.
December marks the birth month and 19th the special day for one of such outstanding personalities in Ghana and the African diaspora’s media, fashion, brands, style, culture and tourism.
Mr Kwasi Kyei Darkwah also known as His Royal Blackness KKD The Finest is a multiple award-winning Ghanaian media personality, brand & communications expert, broadcaster, master of ceremonies, talk show host, style icon, television producer, speech and etiquette coach, actor, documentary and commercials writer, producer, director and culture and tourism promoter.
His brand is distinct and well known for excellence, eloquence and elegance, unrivalled television shows and national events, commercial productions, brand campaigns and hosting of state banquets, corporate and cultural ceremonies for over 30 years.
Born in Tema, Ghana into the Adansi royal family, he honed his skills in showbiz in his parents’ Jatokrom Hotel, & Restaurant, Big Daddy’s Palace night club, and music promotion business before joining the national broadcaster at age 19. He captured the imagination of the nation with his unique style in verbal and visual presentation, deep knowledge of the Arts and Culture, fluency and dexterity.
KKD The Finest won the Best Radio Presenter Award twice as well as the African Disc Jockey Champion Award early in his media career.
Whilst studying Journalism, Public Relations & Advertising at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, he earned his stripes and built his brand at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation before going on to professional attachments with CNN, Fox Children’s TV Network, VOA, LA Weekly and other US media houses courtesy of the USIS’ Young African Leaders Programme for outstanding mass communicators.
He then started his eponymous national TV show KKD 45, created captivating advertising campaigns for numerous brands and produced numerous corporate events, music concerts, fashion shows and festivals before moving to the UK and obtaining a Master of Arts degree in Film & Television Production from London Metropolitan University.
Hosting the nation’s biggest corporate, showbiz and tourism events from age 20, working as Advertising and Promotions Manager for the brewery with the biggest capacity in West Africa from age 26, managing the nation’s biggest record company from age 31 and creating strong brand campaigns throughout his career consolidated his brand in all things media, marketing, culture and tourism.
His abilities served him well as Account Manager, Corporate Health Insurance and Risk at Gissings Consultancy in London’s square mile, and Director of Public Affairs and Communication at Ghana Investment Promotion Centre.
A pace-setter and mentor to many in broadcasting, advertising, speech-writing, creative direction, and show producing and presenting in Africa and her diaspora, His Royal Blackness KKD The Finest is excellent, eloquent, elegant and ever-willing to teach, inspire and lift others up. The Darkwah is undoubtedly an icon; a legend and leading light in Ghana’s media, brands, style and culture.
