Daily Guide reported that American superstar, Robert Sylvester Kelly, known on the international music scene as R. Kelly, will host a major musical concert in Ghana this year.

According to the report, “the American singer, songwriter and record producer will headline and share the stage together with some selected Ghanaian home-grown performing artistes.

The American singer is among many celebrities from the diaspora who will be coming to Ghana for the ‘Year of Return’ celebration this year to connect with their ancestry.”

The committee behind the ‘Year of Return’ has rejoined – indicating the “committee has had no engagements with any event promoters/organisers regarding Mr. Kelly’s supposed performance in Ghana. The committee has not also endorsed any event featuring R. Kelly.”

After published the earlier story by Daily Guide, we observed our readers who reached out to the story, are not enthused – due to the latter’s past and recent bad press over allegations of kidnapping, child pornography and paedophilia, which are all yet to be proven against him for conviction or otherwise.

‘The Year of Return’ marks 400 years since some Black Africans and Ghanaians, for that matter, were shipped as slaves to foreign lands. Kelly’s presence and live performance in Ghana will definitely rock the entire Ghanaian music scene.
