Nana Yaw Kumi, well known as Kumi Guitar, caught Presspeep.com’s attention for an exclusive chat after several months of being in solitude from the showbiz industry.

The build up to Kumi’s vanish was intriguing and fascinating – he actually took a very bold step of parting ways with his management headed by one of the ‘gods’ in Ghana’s showbiz industry, Mark Okraku Mantey of Slip Music.

In an interview with Presspeep.com Kumi Guitar reveals what he has been up to behind the scenes – some of his revelations are simply disheartening to know, that, the musician (who is also a taxi driver) who gave us back to back Highlife classics, is not doing so well.

”Just depressed but still writing and hoping for the best. My taxi I have not been able to fix so I am only into full time writing and practicing” he told Presspeep.com. Anyone closer to the Kumi knows the importance of his taxi to him – his survival rests on it.

Calling on investors, Kumi had this to say; ”I am a raw material, I have a lot that hasn’t been found yet because I am beneath the earth and I need to be mined and refined. People say I am a fine musician so we must give the people what they need (me) and make money.”

Though the road seems rough, Kumi still believes he will be one of Ghana’s finest and would create an indelible impression on the minds of music aficionados as a musician in his time.

He threw a neutral stance when queried as to whether or not he regrets his decision of leaving Slip Music. ”My answer is yes and no. Yes I regret because it was sudden and I had told myself I will work under Mr. Okraku’s label for a longtime and wished that really happened.

“But no, I also don’t regret because, I am exposed to other challenges and I think handling it successfully will give me experience I might not have had under my boss’ label.” Speaking of his relationship with his former boss after their professional separation, Kumi revealed he used to call him but unfortunately his calls doesn’t go through in recent times but he still thinks they are good.

The musician asserted that he will decline any offer from Slip Music even if those offers are highly favourable. ” I will like to work with him when I am bigger and better if the opportunity is there but now, no.”

The musician is cooking a song titled ‘Brown’ featuring Obibini, he is also scheduled to perform at Left Eye in Swedru come December 30th with musicians like Joey B, Wisa Greid and OkraTom Dawidi. He ended by thanking all those who supports him, his fans, and assured that he won’t back down until he’s dead.
