As long as we have a mind, our mental health is something that we should always be concerned about. And because we care about you, here are a few things that you probably did not know were detrimental to your mental health.
Overusing Social Media.
Most of the things we see on social media, regardless of how realistic they look are actually fake. However, it is quite difficult to single out the authentic items and ignore the fake ones. This causes individuals to compare themselves to set false and unattainable standards for themselves such. The inability to do so may heighten anxiety levels and cause low self esteem whilst stirring up negative emotions like jealousy and hatred. Such emotions compromise our peace of mind, causing constant unrest and unhappiness. It is advisable to limit the amount of time spent of social media in order to get in touch with the real world.
Lack of Sleep.
Sleep fortifies us and helps us to rise above the challenges by putting our minds and bodies at a state of rest. However, poor sleeping habits can make one more grumpy, sluggish and less focused. Some bad sleeping habits to avoid are; consuming caffeine such as energy drinks or coffee late in the day, getting involved in situations that stress you out when it is close to your bedtime and using social media right before bed. Instead, take time to unwind and relax before getting a good night’s rest.
Not Getting Enough Exercise.
A healthy mind lives in a healthy body. Exercising releases endorphins which are chemicals that make us feel good. Exercising has a calming effect on us as well and is known to boost confidence due to enabling us to have a good form and physique. So, the next time you are in a damp mood and just do not know why, just try exercising.
